My name is Julie Fryer and I’m a former structural engineer who is now teaching high school science and physics near Sydney, Australia.

Thanks to the sponsorship of Macquarie Capital and the generosity of my school Redlands in Cremorne, I travelled around the US in October 2012 as the recipient of the NSW Premier’s Macquarie Capital Teaching Scholarship 2012. I investigated innovative ways people are teaching science to see how these methods engage students and improve student outcomes. For more details about my trip see my summary page.

Now back from my trip, I hope to record my reflections on attempting to implement some of these methods and other reflections on teaching. At the start of 2013 I moved to a new school due to moving out of Sydney, however I still hope to develop and improve on my teaching to promote student understanding.
